The Bible speaks of difficulties coming in different forms, levels, and
degrees. The Bible does not deny bad times. Even Jesus spoke very
candidly about the bad things that would be a part of our earthly lives.
"In the world you shall have trouble," He said. That sounds to me like
He’s trying to prepare us for the possibility of pain. He does not say
that things will not hurt us, wound us, nor would injure us.
He doesn’t promise that our lives will be perfect and painless.
Yet, for some reason, we never expect bad things to happen. Not that
we’re to live in dread, but we’re not to live in deception either! Don’t
deceive yourself into thinking that you won’t have trouble in this life!
It will come to all of us.
One of the popular hit songs of the 1960's was produced by "The Byrds" called
"Turn, Turn, Turn." The words for this song were taken from Ecclesiastes.
Ecclesiastes 3 says that, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every
purpose under the heaven." That chapter goes on to reveal that life consists of
both negatives and positives. Both pleasant and unpleasant events will occur.
It lets us know that the currents in the stream of life will shift - from calm to
contrary, and back again! Life is like a revolving door - keep walking and you
will be in and out of pain and peace, sorrow and celebration. Trouble will come.
It’s a fact.
Ecclesiastes 3:4 says, "A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn,
and a time to dance." Just as there are times of trouble, there are times of
triumph. When we’re in painful circumstances, we think we will always be there.
We think the pain will never end, and never be over. Now understand, there’s
nothing wrong with weeping. There’s nothing wrong with mourning. The Bible
says that "there’s a time for it." All of us go through things that set us back,
deflate us, and discourage us. There’s nothing wrong with those reactions. The
problem is, we can "drag it out." Those are natural reactions, but they do have
a proper time. And in the proper time frame, they can actually help us.
But the Bible also says that weeping will end. And mourning will end. Those
times will end, and joy will come again! The pain will pass, the sorrow will
subside, and life will get better. Jesus said, "Your sorrow shall be turned into
joy." I like to say, "He’ll turn your frown upside down!" Jesus said, "In the
world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!"
Now, what does He mean by that?
It means Jesus Knows How to Lead you to VICTORY!! He has plans and
purposes, and they don’t include perpetual pain and problems! We can
have peace knowing that He knows what we’re going through, and that He
knows how to get me through it! This is perhaps the most difficult. Because it
requires us to trust and believe in something that is contrary to what we feel,
what we see, and what we seems to be apparent reality. We must trust that
God is in control, and that He is all-wise, and all-knowing, and that He knows
"when" to let "what" come into our lives! That’s not easy.
But I can tell you that if you don’t do that; unless you resolve it in your
heart to trust God - His judgment, His timing, and His sovereignty - you will
lose your sanity in the midst of your sorrow. You have to lean hard upon Him.
Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your
own understanding." Some things you will never figure out. In fact, it’s a waste
of your time, energy, and effort to try and do so. There are just some things
that you will never get through unless you tust God! You must rely upon Him,
trust Him, and depend fully upon Him. I have said many times, "You have to
trust Him, even when you can’t trace Him!" Jeremiah 17:7 says, "Blessed is
the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is."
Just remember God's love can dispel sorrow, help a broken heart, and give
us a great assurance that the love of God is real. May the Lord Bless you,
